The Process of Dental Practices Throughout the Past

By Lydia Greyson

Did you know that George Washington used to have wooden teeth? Would you have ever thought our first president could have wooden teeth? What about our current president with his sparkling pearly whites? A lot has changed in dentistry in the last 250 years. And that's a good thing. Good for you and good for your smile!

Lasers are also being used instead of advanced surgical procedures which can save the patient and the person a lot of time and trouble. Dental implants are also being used more extensively. Tooth replacements are a big issue, and decay or gum disease may have hurt the teeth. Some children may be born with absent teeth. The replacements are often beautiful, long-lasting, and reliable.

One of the biggest changes in orthodontics is Invisalign. It is an invisible liner that corrects the position of the teeth. This can be a smooth, comfortable, and transparent approach to realigning the teeth and improving the smile, and this was unavailable in the last 100 or so years. It's amazing what can be done through modern dental technologies. Everyone loves straight teeth and now you can do it without embarrassing metals stuck to your teeth!

There has also been a change in the number of adults that has been willing to go on through with the orthodontics procedures because they are realizing that it is a lot less painful than when they were kids. There are a lot of improvements that have been made, and they are recognizing that. What are some of the consequences of not going to the dentist? Not going to the dentist can have horrible consequences down the line. People that don't go to the dentist often have higher incidences of cardiovascular illness because the sugar rots away at their gums and lets food into their bloodstream.

This can lead to heart problems. Getting chronic bad breath is also a big problem with going to the dentist. People that don't go to the dentist often have problems with terrible breath. Yellowing of the teeth is another problem, but often only cosmetic dentists can correct this. Cavities can lead to root canals. Sometimes, whole teeth may need to be extracted. Prevention is the best medicine in the case of dentistry. The teeth are easy to clean and take care of, but so many people refuse it because lethargy predominates.
