Body Building Stereotypes Are So Yesterday

By Stacy Kenith

Body building looks like it is probably really hard to do. This is because most of the publicity goes to individuals who are capable of lifting hundreds of pounds (sometimes thousands) and whose muscles are huge-much larger than the well proportioned muscles you are probably hoping to develop. Body building is not so much about that as it is about bettering your health and increasing your energy and stamina. It works out all of your muscles and helps you stay fit. When body building is joined with a nutritious diet and healthy lifestyle choices it becomes a really great activity to participate in. This article contains body building tips that will help you approach the sport correctly.

Have someone teach you the correct way to breathe. Breathing correctly is essential to a body building exercise routine. You should not hold your breath. Oxygen is important for keeping muscles healthy so you want to take in as much as you can. You are going to want your diaphragm to be the focal point of your breathing, not your lungs. When you fill up your lungs with air your chest expands which makes it harder for you to work the muscles in your chest. If you breathe from the diaphragm you are still taking in all the oxygen you need but it doesn't cause your chest to expand.

Body building relies quite a bit upon proper protein intake. It is very important that you have a good level of protein intake because your muscles will use that protein to repair and rebuild themselves after every workout. Body builders are well known for using protein powders to help them make sure that they take in enough protein calories to keep their bodies healthy. As a new body builder this type of thing isn't your concern just yet. Because you are just starting out, making sure that your diet is balanced and healthy should be good enough. If you start to really enjoy the sport and get into it you might consider using protein additives to help your body make up what it lacks in the fiber. Talk with your doctor for advice on choosing the best protein powder.

Let setting goals be an on going process: when you meet one, set another! Step by step goal setting helps keep you focused and keeps you from trying anything stupid or trying to take shortcuts. Always remember: before you can build your muscles you must first strengthen them. If you try to build up too quickly it will be easy to hurt yourself of feel helpless about being able to meet the goals you set for yourself.

Have regular meetings with your doctor. A doctor will be able to help you keep your muscles healthy while still allowing you to follow a good workout schedule. Your doctor will check your response to the workouts, make sure that they are having the proper effect and help to ensure that you aren't straining yourself too much. A doctor can also help identify problems as they develop and keep them from getting out of hand. At minimum, you should see a doctor when you begin your body building routine so that you can make sure that you have the correct approach to the sport. Body building is a fanastic way to get your body into shape. For most new body builders, getting healthy is the ultimate goal. It is only after a while that they shift their focus away from building health to building "prettiness". The correct approach to body building is incredibly important. Remember: your goal is to get or stay healthy. You shouldn't take risks when you do not need to. Don't push yourself too hard or to fast. You will achieve your goals. You just have to be patient and work diligently to get there.
